Impressions of Venice

Prologue:
(For the Impressions images - skip past the first picture and text below)

We stayed in Venice for the final two days of our trip to Italy last year.  When in Europe, we, or at least I, end up drinking way more than normal, (which is no small feat).  On our second night in Venice, after a long day of walking around, eating, and drinking I came upon a dimly lit alley-way that I just had to stop and take a picture of, (see image below).  I was really struck by the single lamp illuminating the small corner in the alley-way, the colours/textures on the walls, the barred windows on the left side, and all of it fading out into the darkness.

The best part is when I got home and was going through all of the pictures from the trip, I realized that I had taken that exact same photo on the first night while staggering back to the apartment and had completely forgoten about it.  I was standing a couple of steps closer, but other than that, the shot was identical.

Edit - I originally had the first night's image posted along side of this one, but it just looked like the same picture twice and seemed kind of pointless.

Impressions:
I did some experimenting with the images below by adding textures to them in an attempt to make the photos look old and cracked like many of the paintings the city is famous for. Some turned out better than others.

There are more of these images in the “archive” section of this website.
